    Businesses expanding, celebrating in Campbell

    By Michelle C. Crowe

As Thanksgiving time nears, some may wish to consider officially thanking a local business with patronage and good words--either in verbal or written form. Not every business makes it into the newspaper, but supplying exemplary service and support deserves recognition. Readers are encouraged to share their positive experiences with Campbell establishments and particular staff members by forwarding their stories to us at campbellreporter@svcn.com.

Word of mouth is a powerful tool and shouldn't be used lightly by anyone--even me. In the Oct. 31 column, I mentioned that the Wienerschnitzel franchise at 1380 W. Campbell would stop serving after Nov. 18. "That date may not be final," says franchise area director Gary Salinas. Although the potential closing was common knowledge among employees at all three Campbell locations, Salinas says there's a chance that owner Abih Sharma's store may be in business past that date, so a visit to show support (or at least say good-bye) would be appreciated.

As James and Richard Smith near completion of the expansion of their Modern Rug Cleaning, Pioneer Rug Cleaning and Modern Pioneer Equipment and Supply, neighbor and veterinarian Karen Langeman, owner of Porte Veterinary Hospital at 3265 Winchester Blvd., is embarking on an addition. An institution for two decades, the hospital will double in size to 2,000 square feet.

Although dog boarding has been temporarily suspended during construction, once completed, there will be additional dog runs available for four-legged visitors. Office manager Lisa Messier says the contractor's estimated completion date is the end of March 2002, and they hope to have an official opening in early April. In anticipation of the increased business the expansion is likely to generate, veterinarian Jennifer Berry will join the practice in January.

The PruneYard Shopping Center will officially welcome the Thanksgiving holiday by lighting up two 15-foot-high "Peace on Earth" signs atop the city's tallest tower to face both directions over Highway 17. The celebration begins at 5:30p.m. Nov. 20 and includes complimentary refreshments.
