    Residents invited to light rail meeting

    An informational meeting about the Vasona Light Rail Project is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 14 at Blackford Elementary School's cafeteria. The school is located at 1970 Willow St. in San Jose.

    The meeting will provide the community with the project's latest schedule and design refinements, including current information about the Hamilton Avenue grade separated crossing. Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority representatives are hoping to receive written and oral comments on the project from the community.

    Additionally, the agency's board of directors elected Campbell city councilwoman Jane Kennedy to serve as vice chairwoman of the board for 2002 at a Nov. 1 meeting. San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales was elected chairman of the board.

    The board also approved its 2002 meeting schedule--most of the meetings will be held at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the board of supervisors, chambers at the County Government Center, 70 W. Hedding St. in San Jose. The new board's first meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10, 2002.

    City staff explains historic buildings

    Campbell's Historic Preservation Board plans to hold an informal open house from 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave., in Board Room E-42.

    The meeting will address the concerns of property owners who have questions about what historic designations mean for their buildings.

    The board is considering adding many properties to the Historic Resources Inventory. Several buildings on Campbell Avenue, Fourth Street, Rincon Avenue, Second Street and Third Street are proposed as additions to the list.

    Bicycle committee has open position

    The city of Campbell is accepting applications from people who either live or work in Campbell and are interested in serving on the five-member Bicycle Advisory Committee.

    This committee guides the development of bicycle planning and policies for the city and makes recommendations to the city council in the use of funds for bicycle-related capital projects.The committee meets on an as-needed basis, but generally meets bi-monthly.

    The city is interested in receiving input on bicycle-related issues from all segments of the community based on residential and business locations, age, types of users and interests. Applicants must be at least 18.

    Anyone interested in applying is encouraged to do so before Nov. 28. For more information email publicworks@ci.campbell.ca.us or call the public works department at 408.866.2150.
