Westmont volleyball falls at CCS
The Westmont girls volleyball team earned a berth in the CCS tournament this fall, but lost in first-round action.
Westmont lost its CCS Division II opener, falling 15-12, 15-4, 15-9 to Menlo-Atherton. M-A (19-5) will now square off with No. 1 seed St. Francis (24-2) in the CCS semi's.
The loss left the Warriors 16-22 for the year, but they managed to come on strong in the final days of the league season to clinch a berth in the CCS playoffs.
Westmont beat Del Mar (15-11, 15-2, 15-5) and Leigh (6-15, 15-6, 15-7, 15-0) in the final two matches of the regular season to wind up 7-7 in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. The two wins helped get the Warriors into the postseason.
Seniors Ashley Carrothers, Megan Rogers, Stefani Carver, Deanna Fillhover and DeAnna Negrete played their final match for Westmont in the CCS bout with M-A.
Freshmen Kathryn Obermeyer and Andrea Conley, sophomore Megan Merill and juniors Jessica Posmoga, Christine Barbin, Hilary Collins and Nicole Harmer were other members of the Westmont squad coached by John Haroun.
