McGill's 45 points spark Dons to wins

    By Dick Sparrer

Morgan McGill pitched in 45 points in two games to lead the Del Mar girls basketball team to back-to-back wins over Wilcox and San Jose Academy last week.

McGill buried 27 points to lead the Dons to a lopsided 59-31 win over the Bulldogs to open the week. The junior sharpshooter had a three-pointer among her 10 field goals, and she added six points at the free-throw line.

Senior forward Justine Stagi finished in double digits with 13 points, and she also hit a three. Ali Mollet supported with nine points, A.J. Galloway and Lisa Nwoye had four apiece, and Katrina Manubay hit two.

McGill came back later in the week with 18 points in Del Mar's 51-45 victory over Wilcox. The win pushed the Dons' record to 3-0 in the young season.

Mollet canned a pair of threes on her way to a 10-point night for the Dons and Stagi hit a couple of threes and finished with eight points. Galloway also had eight points in the win, Stacie Sakauye three, and Nwoye and Namsah Kargbo two apiece.

The Dons will try to maintain their winning ways this week when they visit Los Gatos Dec. 11, 7 p.m., and Homestead Dec. 13, 5 p.m.
