This season lending itself to an array of new names

    By Michelle C. Crowe

At Campbell's former ClickArray Networks, a Web traffic management firm, CEO Don Massaro explained the reason for the company's recent name change to Array Networks thus: the old name "sounded too dot-commy." Although Massaro's name isn't as well- known as his former associate, Al Shugart (the two co-founded Shugart Associates), Massaro is known for his savvy business sense--he took over when their previous company's board ousted Shugart. Hopefully, the name change will have the desired results.

Oops. The name of the free Christmas musical by The Home Church, which plays Saturday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m., was listed last week as Christmas Joy; the correct title is That's the Good News. The dress rehearsal on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. is also open to the public. The Home Church is located at 1711 S. Winchester Blvd.

The eight days of Hanukkah (or Chanukah--there's that name theme again) began Sunday, Dec. 9 at sundown. Candles for the festival of lights can be found at Essence of Nature at 267 E. Campbell Ave., while charming keepsake gifts abound at A Little Something Special at 415 E. Campbell Ave. and Avery's of California at Kirkwood Plaza.

Sadly, one name the community will lose is another Kirkwood tenant: Price Charming, the thrift store benefiting nonprofit Hospice of the Valley.

"We want to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the community and to all of our donors and supporters," says Executive Director Jessica Klinghoffer. "We thank the store staff, volunteers and advisory board for their unwavering dedication, hospice heart and generous giving of their time over the past eight years."

Donations will be accepted through the store's closing date, scheduled for Dec. 22.

On a happier note, Dale Ann Johnson, proprietor of Lisa's Tea Treasures at The Pruneyard Shopping Center, is celebrating her fourth year of holiday memory-making opportunities with a variety of specially named tea events. Although the Victorian Noel evening teas are completely booked, there is space available at the Sugar Plum Teas (for children ages 5 to 10) Dec. 13, 17, 18 and 20, and the dessert-only Nutcracker Sweets Teas Dec. 13, 20 and 21. The Spirit of Christmas Teas run throughout December. Reservations are recommended; call 408.371.7377.
