Campbell students
nominated for the
SCCABE Award

Monroe Middle School teacher April Penny was nominated for the 2008 Santa Clara County Alliance of Black Educators' Hank Hutchins Award.

The award is given to black educators who strive to improve education for black students. Penny won the award in 2005.

For their excellence in academics, the following students from Monroe were nominated for the SCCABE Student Award: Rachel Berhane, Saybah Biawogi, Tia Jackson, Vivienne Muller and Carmen Muller.

Anthony Freeman from Campbell Middle School and Adrienne Beckham from Rolling Hills Middle School were also nominated.

Workshop set for
prospective school
board candidates

The Santa Clara County School District will host a SCC School Boards Association Candidates Workshop for prospective school board members at the Berryessa district office, 1376 Piedmont Road in San Jose, on June 7, 9 a.m.-noon.

Current school board members will talk about roles and responsibilities of school board service. A representative from the

Registrar of Voters will speak about campaign filing.

Sponsored by PG&E, the event is free and open to anyone. Registration will take place at the event.

Walkathon
plus e-waste
drop-off

Marshall Lane Elementary School, 14114 Marilyn Lane in Saratoga, will hold its walkathon fundraiser on May 30.

The school will have a raffle, face painting and also a health fair.

Throughout the day, there will also be a station for the community to drop off electronic waste.
